Filipino Directions

These are expressions used when giving or getting directions in Filipino. Very useful when trying to find your way around or when lost.

Excuse me! (to ask someone): ekskyus nga ho; paumanhin nga ho=formal
Can you show me?: puwede bang ipakita ninyo sa akin?
I'm lost: nawawala ako
I'm not from here: hindi ako taga-rito
Can I help you?: ano ho ang maitutulong ko sa inyo?
Can you help me?: matutulungan mo ba ako?
It's near here: malapit dito
It's far from here: malayo mula rito
Go straight: dumeretso ka
Turn left: kumaliwa ka
Turn right: kkumanan ka
One moment please!: sandali nga lang ho!
Come with me!: halikayo; sumama kayo sa akin
How can I get to the museum? : paano ang pagpunta sa museo?
How long does it take to get there?: gaano katagal ang pagpunta doon?
Downtown (city center): kabayanan; downtown

The following are words which might be used alone or in combination with other words to ask or give directions.

Near: malapit
Far: malayo
Right: kanan
Left: kaliwa
Straight: diretso
There: doon
Here: dito
To walk: maglakad
To drive: magmaneho; magdraybe
To turn: umikot; bumuwelta
Traffic light: ilaw; ilaw trapiko=literal
