Gujarati Pronouns

This is a list of pronouns in Gujarati. This includes subject, object, and the possessive. These are used on a daily basis, so don't skip this lesson. We start with the object pronouns such as "I, you, her ..."

I: હું
huṁ
You: તમે
tamē
He: તે

She: તેણી
tēṇī
We: અમે
amē
You (pl.): તમો
tamō
They: તેઓ
tē'ō

Here are samples to demonstrate how the object pronoun is used in a sentence.

I love you: હું તને પ્રેમ કરું છું
huṁ tanē prēma karuṁ chuṁ
She is beautiful: તેણી સુંદર છે
tēṇī sundara chē
We are happy: અમે ખુશ છીએ
amē khuśa chī'ē
They are dancing: તેઓ નાચી રહ્યા છે
tē'ō nācī rahyā chē

Now we look into the subject pronoun such as "me, him, us, them ...".

Me: હું
huṁ
You: તમે
tamē
Him: તેમને
tēmanē
Her: તેણીના
tēṇīnā
Us: અમને
amanē
You (pl.): તમો
tamō
Them: તેમના
tēmanā

These are examples to demonstrate how the subject pronoun is used in a sentence.

Give me your phone number: તમારો ફોન નંબર આપશો
tamārō phōna nambara āpaśō
I can give you my email: હું તમને મારો ઈમૈલ આપી શકું
huṁ tamanē mārō īmaila āpī śakuṁ
Tell him to call me: એમને કહો કે મને કોલ કરે
ēmanē kahō kē manē kōla karē
Can you call us?: શું તમે મને કોલ કરી શકો
śuṁ tamē manē kōla karī śakō

We reach now the possessive adjective part, used to refer to thing we possess. Examples: "my, our, their ...".

My: મારું
māruṁ
Your: તમારું
tamāruṁ
His: તેમની
tēmanī
Her: તેણીના
tēṇīnā
Our: અમારું
amāruṁ
Your (pl.): આપનું
āpanuṁ
Their: તેમનું
tēmanuṁ

Here are samples to demonstrate how the possessive adjective is used.

My phone number is . . .: મારો નંબર છે
mārō nambara chē
His email is . . .: તેનો ઈમૈલ
tēnō īmaila
Our dream is to visit Spain: સ્પૈન ફરવાં જવાનું અમારું સપનું છે
spaina pharavāṁ javānuṁ amāruṁ sapanuṁ chē
Their country is beautiful: તેમનો દેશ સુંદર છે
tēmanō dēśa sundara chē

This is the possessive pronoun. Used as an alternative to the possessive adjectives above. Instead of saying "It is my dog" you can say "It is mine".

Mine: મારું
māruṁ
Yours: તમારું, આપનું
tamāruṁ, āpanuṁ
His: તેનું
tēnuṁ
Hers: તેણીનું
tēṇīnuṁ
Ours: અમારું
amāruṁ
Yours (pl.): તમારું (બહુવચન)
tamāruṁ (bahuvacana)
Theirs: તેમનું
tēmanuṁ

These are some examples of the possessive pronoun in a sentence.

The book is mine: પુસ્તક મારું છે
pustaka māruṁ chē
Is this pen yours?: શું આ પેન તમારી છે?
śuṁ ā pēna tamārī chē?
The shoes are hers: જૂતા તેના છે
Jūtā tēnā chē
Victory is ours: વિજય અમારો છે
vijaya amārō chē
