Tagalog Pronouns

This is a list of pronouns in Tagalog. This includes subject, object, and the possessive. These are used on a daily basis, so don't skip this lesson. We start with the object pronouns such as "I, you, her ..."

I: ako
You: ikaw
He: siya
She: siya
We: kami
You (pl.): kayo
They: sila

Here are samples to demonstrate how the object pronoun is used in a sentence.

I love you: mahal kita; iniibig kita=formal
She is beautiful: maganda siya
We are happy: masaya kami
They are dancing: nagsasayaw sila

Now we look into the subject pronoun such as "me, him, us, them ...".

Me: ako
You: ikaw
Him: kanya
Her: kanya
Us: kami
You (pl.): kayo
Them: kanila

These are examples to demonstrate how the subject pronoun is used in a sentence.

Give me your phone number: ibigay mo sa akin ang telepono mo
I can give you my email: puwede kong ibigay sa iyo ang email ko
Tell him to call me: sabihin mo sa kanyang tawagan ako
Can you call us?: puwede mo ba kaming tawagan?

We reach now the possessive adjective part, used to refer to thing we possess. Examples: "my, our, their ...".

My: ko
Your: iyong
His: ang kanyang
Her: ang kanyang
Our: ang aming
Your (pl.): inyo
Their: ang kanilang

Here are samples to demonstrate how the possessive adjective is used.

My phone number is . . .: ...ang telepono ko
His email is . . .: ...ang email niya
Our dream is to visit Spain: pangarap naming makapunta sa Espanya
Their country is beautiful: maganda ang kanilang bansa

This is the possessive pronoun. Used as an alternative to the possessive adjectives above. Instead of saying "It is my dog" you can say "It is mine".

Mine: akin
Yours: iyo
His: ang kanyang
Hers: kanya
Ours: atin
Yours (pl.): inyo
Theirs: kanila

These are some examples of the possessive pronoun in a sentence.

The book is mine: sa akin ang libro
Is this pen yours?: sa iyo ba ang peng ito?
The shoes are hers: sa kanya ang sapatos
Victory is ours: sa atin ang tagumpay
