Swahili Directions

These are expressions used when giving or getting directions in Swahili. Very useful when trying to find your way around or when lost.

Excuse me! (to ask someone): Samahani / Kunradhi
Can you show me?: Unaweza kunionyesha?
I'm lost: Nimepotea
I'm not from here: Sitoki hapa
Can I help you?: Nikusaidie vipi? / Naweza kukusaidia?
Can you help me?: Unaweza kunisaidia?
It's near here: Iko karibu na hapa
It's far from here: Iko mbali na hapa
Go straight: Enda moja kwa moja
Turn left: Enda kushoto
Turn right: Enda kulia
One moment please!: Dakika moja tafadhali!
Come with me!: Njoo nami!
How can I get to the museum? : Nitafika vipi kwenye jumba la makumbusho?
How long does it take to get there?: Itachukuwa muda gani kufika hapo?
Downtown (city center): Downtown mji

The following are words which might be used alone or in combination with other words to ask or give directions.

Near: Karibu
Far: Mbali
Right: Kulia
Left: Kushoto
Straight: Moja kwa moja
There: kule
Here: hapa
To walk: Kutembea kwa miguu
To drive: Kuendesha
To turn: Kupinduka
Traffic light: Mwanga trafiki
