Slovak Past

This is a list of verbs in the past tense in Slovak. First let's start with the raw format before conjugating the verbs to the past form. Make sure to compare this table and the one below it.

To write: písať
To love: milovať
To give: dať
To play: hrať
To read: čítať
To understand: rozumieť, pochopiť
To have: mať
To know: vedieť
To learn: učiť sa, naučiť sa
To think: myslieť, premýšľať
To work: pracovať
To speak: hovoriť, rozprávať
To drive: jazdiť
To smile: smiať sa, usmievať sa
To find: zistiť / objaviť / uznať / vyhľadať

These samples show how the verbs above are conjugated in the past tense in a sentence which includes all the object pronouns (I, you, she...).

I saw you: Videl (videla) som ťa
I wrote with a pen: Písal (pisala) som perom
You loved apples: Mal (mala) si rád (rada) jablká
You gave money: Dal (dala) si peniaze
You played tennis: Hral (hrala) si tenis
He read (past) a book: Čítal knihu
He understood me: Rozumel mi
She had a cat: Mala mačku
She knew my friend: Poznala mȏjho priateľa
We wanted to learn: Chceli sme sa učiť
We thought Spanish is easy: Mysleli sme si že je španielčina ľahká
You (plural) worked here: Vy ste tu pracovali
You (plural) spoke French: Vy ste hovorili po francúzky
They drove a car: Riadili auto
They smiled: Smiali sa
