This is a list of verbs in the past tense in Malayalam. First let's start with the raw format before conjugating the verbs to the past form. Make sure to compare this table and the one below it.

These samples show how the verbs above are conjugated in the past tense in a sentence which includes all the object pronouns (I, you, she...).

I saw you: ഞാൻ നിന്നെ കണ്ടായിരുന്നു
ñāൻ ninne kaṇṭāyirunnu
I wrote with a pen: ഞാൻ പേന ഉപയോഗിച്ചായിരുന്നു എഴുതിയത്
ñāൻ pēna upayēāgiccāyirunnu eḻutiyat
You loved apples: നിനക്ക് ആപ്പിൾ ഇഷ്ടമായിരുന്നു
ninakk āppiൾ iṣṭamāyirunnu
You gave money: നീ പണം തന്നു
nī paṇaṁ tannu
You played tennis: നീ tennis കളിച്ചു
nī tennis kaḷiccu
He read (past) a book: അവൻ ഒരു പുസ്തകം വായിച്ചു
avaൻ oru pustakaṁ vāyiccu
He understood me: അവൻ എന്നെ മനസിലാക്കി
avaൻ enne manasilākki
She had a cat: അവൾക്കു ഒരു പൂച്ച ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു
avaൾkku oru pūcca uṇṭāyirunnu
She knew my friend: അവൾക്കു എന്‍റെ സുഹൃത്തിനെ അറിയുമായിരുന്നു
avaൾkku en‍ṟe suhr̥ttine aṟiyumāyirunnu
We wanted to learn: ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് പഠിക്കണമായിരുന്നു
ñaṅṅaൾkk paṭhikkaṇamāyirunnu
We thought Spanish is easy: സ്പാനിഷ് എളുപ്പമാണെന്നായിരുന്നു ഞങ്ങൾ കരുതിയിരുന്നത്
spāniṣ eḷuppamāṇennāyirunnu ñaṅṅaൾ karutiyirunnat
You (plural) worked here: നിങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെയായിരുന്നു ജോലി ചെയ്തിരുന്നത്
niṅṅaൾ iviṭeyāyirunnu jēāli ceytirunnat
You (plural) spoke French: നിങ്ങൾ ഫ്രഞ്ച് സംസാരിച്ചിരുന്നു
niṅṅaൾ phrañc sansāriccirunnu
They drove a car: അവർ ഒരു കാർ ഓടിച്ചു
avaർ oru kāർ ōṭiccu
They smiled: അവർ ചിരിച്ചു
avaർ ciriccu
